A CHARITY shop has appealed for urgent donations to meet an increased demand for goods before Christmas.

The Mind shop, in Duke Street, Darlington, has seen a surge in customers looking for affordable gifts for Christmas and now needs to restock its shelves with good quality clothing, winter coats, accessories and CDs and DVDs.

More than 95 per cent of the items sold in Mind shops come from local donations, which are converted into funds for the charity’s work to help people with mental health issues and those facing loneliness in the community.

A spokeswoman for the Darlington Mind shop said: “Christmas is a time when everyone would like to buy and give gifts to their loved ones.

“This year many people are feeling the pinch, and charity shops are proving to be a great option for those on a budget. However, due to a dearth in donations, Mind cannot meet the additional demand.

“We are asking people to look carefully at last year’s gifts, that they no longer need and donate them to make someone’s Christmas wishes come true. Anything you can spare would be welcome.”
