A public inquiry has upheld a decision to close Trafalgar Street West in Scarborough. The closure of the street was directly linked to Tesco’s planning permission to build a new supermarket on the site of the current Scarborough Borough Council depot on Dean Road and was seen as the last requirement to allow the supermarket development to go ahead. The closure of the street was passed to the Government planning inspector at a public inquiry in October and the decision has been returned today (Thursday, December 19). Tesco pulled out of the purchase of the Dean Road site last week, but Scarborough Borough Council says it is hopeful the decision will make the site an attractive one for an alternative developer.
