CHILDREN have raised hundreds of pounds for Filipino communities devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
Since the disaster struck on Friday, November 8, pupils at St Godric’s RC Primary School, in Durham City, have held a sports day, cake sales and made and sold bracelets and cards.
They also held a collection at their nativity.
Overall the youngsters raised £500, which will go towards Cafod’s Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.
Catherine Craig, the headteacher, said: “The school wanted to help the people of the Phillipines and thought the best way to do this would be through Cafod.
“We believe it is a worthwhile charity and the school council likes to support their work each year.
“After Cafod staff member John McBride delivered an assembly explaining how the money raised would be used, the children decided on different ways to achieve their fundraising targets.”
Typhoon Haiyan has affected more than 13 million people.
