A CHARITY shop has launched an appeal for people to donate last year’s unwanted Christmas to help boost sales.

The Mind shop, in Barnard Castle, has discovered customers are tightening their belts and are visit charity shops in search of gifts.

The shop, which relies on donations for 95 per cent of its stock, is looking to fill its shelves with good quality clothing, winter coats, accessories, CD’s and DVD’s.

All proceeds go to fund the charity’s work such as the Mind Infoline, information and advice services, and the campaigning Mind does to secure a better life for the one in four people who experience a mental health problem every year.

Mind shop manager Michelle Cornes said: “Christmas is a time when everyone would like to buy and give gifts to their loved ones. “This year many people are feeling the pinch, and charity shops are proving to be a great option for those on a budget. However, due to a dearth in donations, Mind cannot meet the additional demand.

“We are therefore asking people to look carefully at last year’s gifts, that they no longer need and donate them to make someone’s Christmas wishes come true. Anything you can spare would be welcome.”
