Fire fighters had to release a man trapped in a car after he drove into a shop front on the High Street in Harrogate on Saturday, December 21, just before 7am. They used cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle and release the 18-year-old driver from the Ford Fiesta. He was then taken to hospital by ambulance with injuries to his head, chest and leg, which were not believed to be life-threatening.

JEWELLERY STOLEN: Police are appealing for information after a burglary from a home in Stokesley. Between 7pm and 8pm someone entered the rear of a property in the Springfield area of the town and stole jewellery and keys left out in the kitchen. Also on the same evening, a man believed to be behaving suspiciously was disturbed in the porch area of a property on Linwood Avenue in the town between 8pm and 8.15pm on Wednesday, December 18. He is described as being fairly stocky and reasonably tall, wearing a dark coat. Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.

STRAW FIRE: Fire crews were called to a field near Musham Bank, on the A64 near Scarborough at 12.50pm on Saturday, December 21, where baled straw was found to be on fire. It is believed the fire was caused by children with matches.
