A TWO storey extension to Hummersknott Academy that will provide extra space for teaching has been granted permission by planners.
The new addition to the academy, in Darlington’s west end, will enclose an existing courtyard and will also offer extra staff facilities, storage and meeting rooms.
A report prepared by Darlington Borough Council officers, acting under delegated powers, notes that the new extension will fit in with the surroundings of the refurbished school building.
The roof of the extension will be a white material membrane stretched over a steel frame, which will be illuminated and visible over the school entrance.
A planning condition to ensure the level of illumination, which will be provided by external lighting, does not disturb neighbours of the school has been attached to the permission.
It is not thought that the new extension will lead to an increase in the number of pupils attending the academy.
