POLICE are urging motorists not to start their new year with a ban. Northumbria Police are asking people to think before they drink and avoid being arrested for drink driving over the festive season. The force is running a month-long crackdown against the crime. All drivers involved in crashes are being breathalysed, plus anyone caught speeding. To report a drink driver, call 101.
CHRISTMAS BABY: A baby boy was apparently determined to be born on Christmas Day. Caleb Cook was born at the University Hospital of North Durham, Durham City, 51 minutes into Christmas Day at 12 days overdue and following a 32-hour labour. The first child of Paul and Anna Cook, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, he weighed 7lb 14oz. Mother and child are both doing well.
