DOCTORS are urging residents to check the range of health services available to them before using emergency services and accident and emergency departments over the winter.

NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said while emergency services and departments in the area face increasing numbers of patients over the winter, significant numbers of the patients could be treated by a more appropriate NHS service.

Dr Charles Parker, the CCG's lead for urgent care, said it was vital people help keep emergency services free for seriously ill patients by visiting their GP, pharmacy or minor injuries unit.

Leaflets and posters detailing patients' options for different conditions will be displayed at GP practices, health centres and pharmacies.
