Women's group returns

ALINGTON House Women’s Group will return for the New Year with a ‘Happy New Year planning session’ on Thursday, January 9. The group meetings in Alington House community centre, North Bailey, Durham, each Thursday from 11am to 1pm. Each session costs £2 including tea or coffee. ACTION DAY: A Dignity Action Day will be staged by St Anne’s Community Services and Riverside at Belmont Community Centre, Sunderland Road, Gilesgate Moor, Durham, on Saturday, February 1, from 11am to 1pm. For more information, call 0191-386-5251. All are welcome.

TWELFTH NIGHT: Durham Shakespeare Group will perform a shortened version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at The Old Church, Sacriston, on Twelfth Night – Monday, January 6 – at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, free for under 18s. For more information, call 0191-383-1547.

SHOPPERS’ SERVICE: St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Coxhoe will host a Shoppers’ Service on Saturday (January 4) at 10am. The speaker is lay preacher Tony Whiting.

COMMUNITY MEETING: The next meeting of Garden Farm and West Lane Community Association will be held in the Garden Farm Hotel, Carlingford Lane, Chester-le-Street, on Wednesday, January 15, at 7.30pm. The meeting will include a Police and Communities Together (Pact) update.

LET’S TALK: Brandon Community Hall, on Brandon Lane, Brandon, hosts a drop-in session each Tuesday from noon to 3pm for anyone in need of a chat and a cup of tea or coffee.

MAYOR’S DATE: Councillor Pauline Charlton, the Mayor of Durham, will open a new Pappa John’s pizza shop on Sunderland Road, Gilesgate Moor, on Saturday, January 11, at noon.
