A COUNTY Durham church is offering a free money management course to help people get their finances back on track in the New Year.

Life Church in Newton Aycliffe is one of 1,138 churches across the UK delivering the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) money course this month.

CAP money coach and Life Church member Linzi Nicolls said: “January is a great time to take a fresh look at your financial situation and make a plan for the year ahead.

"Lots of people are keen to manage their money, but often don’t have the basic skills, so this course is a really effective place to start.”

“Even if you went a bit overboard at Christmas, it’s not too late to do something now about your financial situation.

"With the help of the CAP Money Course, we have seen people back in the black and start saving - sometimes for the first time in their lives.”

The course is open to everyone regardless of whether they are employed, unemployed, self-employed, receiving benefits, retired, newly married or recently divorced.

Lifeline Community Action, a Newton Aycliffe-based charity that helps families and individuals in times of crisis, is also supporting the project.

The first course takes place on Monday, January 13, 20 and 27, from noon to 2pm.
