A COURT has heard how a man crashed through a garden wall while over the drink drive limit and then fled.

Anthony Frampton, 21, from Peppermint Drive, Colburn, pleaded guilty at Northallerton Magistrates Court today (Friday, January 3) to driving with 58mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, failing to stop at an accident and failing to report an accident.

Northallerton Magistrates Court heard how Jacqueline Scott had been in her sitting room in Colburn on December 14 when she heard a thud outside her home.

She went outside to find a car had crashed through her garden wall and people screaming inside.

Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, told the court that as Mrs Scott went to help she saw Frampton walking away.

She asked him what he was doing and he asked her if an ambulance had been called.

Mrs Scott told him he couldn’t leave his friends and to go back to the car with her, which he did.

Frampton later left the scene and was arrested at his home by police.

The passengers suffered minor cuts and bruises.

Helen Sabiston, defending, told the court that Mr Frampton had been at a friend’s house who wanted to get some cigarettes from Tesco at Catterick Garrison.

Frampton had initially refused, but eventually relented and they picked up two female friends on the way back.

She said he wasn’t driving particularly fast when he crashed his car after trying to brake at a t-junction.

She said panic set, causing him to leave the scene, but he was still in contact with his friends who didn’t appear to hold a grudge.

Frampton also visited Mrs Scott to apologise and pay for repairs to her wall.

He was disqualified for driving for 15 months and fined a total of £500, plus £85 court costs and a £50 victim surcharge.
