The Durham Ramblers will hold a seven-mile walk from Jarrow to Tynemouth, with a fish and chip lunch at South Shields, returning via ferry and Metro, on Wednesday, January 8. EVENING TALK: The next evening talk of the Houghall Horticultural Society will be given by Pat Foster on the subject of Lady Gardeners. The meeting will be held in the Conference Hall at the Houghall Campus of East Durham College, near Durham City at 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 14.

LECTURE DATE: The Architectural and Archaeological Society of Durham and Northumberland will host its next lecture at the Elvet Riverside Room, 142 Old Elvet, Durham City, at 2.30pm on Saturday, January 11. Dr Eric Cambridge will be speaking on Licking and Rolling: Early Christian Exegesis and the Ruthwell and Bewcastle Crosses. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
