NOMINATIONS are being sought for outstanding people and groups who should win a Durham County Council Chairman’s Medal.

Councillor Pauline Charlton, chairwoman of Durham County Council, is working with the 14 area action partnerships (AAP) to identify applicants.

Fourteen medals will be presented and applicants can be of any age.

They will be presented to people for their voluntary efforts or to organisations which have made an outstanding charitable contribution.

Each of the AAPs will select three nominees and then Coun Charlton will select one from each group to receive the award.

Coun Charlton said: “There are so many unsung heroes in County Durham who do things for their community that can go unnoticed.

“We will be holding a presentation event which will be a celebration of the achievements and effort that people of our county put in every day.”

Nominations can be sent to the chairman’s office, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL. They can also be sent to the AAPs.

Forms can also be obtained at durham.gov.uk/aap or via email from chairmansoffice@durham.gov.uk .

The closing date for nominations is Friday, February 14 and the awards ceremony is in April.
