POLICE in Darlington are urging people to lock shut their windows and doors to help prevent themselves becoming burglary victims.

The plea comes after a number of recent burglaries have taken place at houses with insecure windows or doors, particularly in the North Road area.

Officers are increasing patrols in the area, but are also urging householders to lock their windows and doors when leaving their properties to prevent themselves becoming victims of crime.

People are also encouraged to close their curtains and leave a light on when leaving their homes to deter criminals during dark nights.
