POLICE are warning people to beware of meat being sold door-to-door after a break-in at a farm.
Meat worth more than £300 was taken from New Close Farm, Sacriston, and police are concerned it could pose a health hazard.
PC Ian Choake said: “Although the products are vacuum packed there is no guarantee the offenders have the facilities for the meat and, as many were bulky joints, they may well try and cut them up.
“Therefore we are advising the public not to buy or consume any meat products offered at a suspiciously low price or offered door-to-door.
“Not only could they be stolen goods but there is no guarantee the meat will even be edible.”
The burglary occurred between 10.30pm on the night of Thursday, January 9 and 7am on Friday, January 10. Anyone with information should call Durham Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
