A HIGHLY successful school football team is through to the last 16 of the English Schools’ FA Cup.
The under-14s boys’ team from St Leonard’s RC School, in Durham City, won the English Schools’ Football Association’s Premier League Cup at Hillsborough - the 39,000-seater stadium which is home to Sheffield Wednesday - last year.
They beat Biddick Academy, of Washington, Wearside, to become the last remaining North-East team in this year’s competition, which started with more than 700 schools involved.
In the next round, the boys face a trip to a school in East Yorkshire.
The team won the Junior Team of the Year prize at December's Local Heroes Awards, run by The Northern Echo.
