DARLINGTON Borough Council has warned of disruption at its Beaumont Street North car park ahead of preparations for a proposed multi-storey car park.

Part of the car park, about 53 spaces, will be unavailable for up to three weeks for archaeological investigations that are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 20.

The archaeological dig, which will be carried out by Durham University, is required before a planning application for the proposed multi-storey car park on the site can be submitted.

A council spokeswoman said the work is expected to take two to three weeks but the actual duration will depend on what, if anything, of architectural or historical interest is found.

The Beaumont Street East car park and the car park on the former bus depot site will be open as usual through the work.
