A WOMAN had to be cut out of her car by firefighters after a two-car collision on West Auckland Road in Darlington.

The injured motorist was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital suffering whiplash after the crash involving a green Jaguar X-type and a silver BMW 118.

It happened at about 1.45pm this afternoon (Thursday, January 16) on a stretch of the A68 between Cockerton Green and Brinkburn Road.

Traffic built up between the centre of Darlington and the Junction 58 of the A1 while the road was closed for about two hours to allow police, paramedics and firecrews to deal with the incident.

I live in the village and was disgusted at just how many people gathered around the crash just to get a look. I am also disgusted at this paper allowing a photograph of the scene to be published showing the crash. I agree with Andredarlo, show some respect. Would like to praise all the Emergency Services in attendance. West Auckland road is horrendously busy at all times. Drive safely and take care peeps.

Whilst i have every sympathy for the people injured and hurt i feel that it needs to be said this road at this point is a nightmare for people TRYING to park. There is also a speed and weight of traffic issue the road needs widening at this point or designated parking drop off bays.
