POLICE are requesting that a Ferryhill pub has its opening hours reduced following claims it served alcohol to underage drinkers.

Durham County Council’s statutory licensing sub-committee is to review the licence of Llewellyns Café and Bar, on Main Street, in Ferryhill.

Concerns have been raised by both the police and the council’s director of public health about the pub, run by landlady Alison Lamb.

The pub’s licensing hours are from 9am to 2am, Monday to Saturday, and between 10am and midnight on a Sunday.

In documents prepared for the council meeting, police claim to have evidence of alcohol sales after hours.

The documents also include information about how pub staff fell foul of test purchase operations, serving underage drinkers alcohol at the pub.

Among the measures being requested are making clsoing time 11pm each night and for door staff to be employed on certain days.

The licensing committee is also being requested to ensure that both a CCTV system is installed and a Challenge 25 policy adopted.

Several members of Llewellyns have written to the committee to back the landlady and to refute the police’s allegations.

The statutory licensing sub-committee is at County Hall on Tuesday (January 21) at 10am.
