ART created by pupils from 12 Catholic schools across the North-East has gone on display at Durham Cathedral.

Inspired by the theme Sacred Song and Script, more than 200 young artists in the Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Partnership have spent the last few months creating exciting artwork in various media.

Each piece of art explores the theology that is the heart of the partnership’s ethos and shows how young artists interpret religious writings and music.

Music was provided at this evening’s opening (Monday, January 20) by St John’s Catholic School, Bishop Auckland – providing a soundscape as well more traditional sacred songs.

The exhibition in the cathedral’s Galilee Chapel runs until February 12.

Admission is free.
