A GROUP which helps adults with learning difficulties is £870 better off thanks to an annual quiz.

The event was organised by the Bishop Auckland Civic Society, raised money for Innovations, in Westgate Road.

About 250 people formed 38 teams at Bishop Auckland Town Hall in attempt to compete for points from 190 questions.

Dr Bob McManners, chairman of Bishop Auckland Civic Centre, said: “Every year we run an annual quiz in the town for a good cause.

“Over the last 16 years about £26,000 has been raised from this event.”

Janice Smythe, unit manager for Innovations, added: “We will probably put it towards sensory and sports equipment. It will make a massive difference to all the people here. It is brilliant to receive this money.”
