TWO villages have been spruced up with new name signs and notice boards thanks to the efforts of local volunteers.
Ingleby Arncliffe and Ingleby Cross, between Northallerton and Stokesley, are on the route of Wainwright’s famous “Coast to Coast” walk.
Many walkers from Britain and overseas pass through the villages each year, often staying overnight at one of the local B&Bs.
The local parish council drew up a programme of improvements designed to enhance the appearance of the two villages and conserve the history for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
Initially two new village name signs were ordered with the help of a Hambleton Strategic Forum Grant.
Additional name signs were then put in place on each of the three approach roads and a brand new notice board on the main street, gain with the help of a grant.
Kayleigh Temple, a former pupil from the village school, designed an information panel depicting most of the important older buildings in the parish while former parish council chairman Joyce Bean provided information to accompany the images.
Local graphic designer Paul Gaythorpe prepared the images which were imprinted on a glass reinforced plastic interpretive panel housed in a solid oak frame.
“Throughout the project valuable help was given by volunteers from the village community,” said a spokesman.
