A SERVICE of farewell will be held to say goodbye to Reverend Brenda Jones, who is retiring from a Bishop Auckland church.  

The service at Woodhouse Close Church, on Proudfoot Drive, where Rev Jones has been the vicar for six and a half years, will start at 3pm on Sunday, January 26.  

All are welcome.

TINDALL PREACHER: Father Dennis Tindall, the Roman Catholic priest at St Mary's in Bishop Auckland, will be the guest preacher at South Church Methodist Church on Sunday (January 26). The service, will be led by Reverend Keith Phipps and will start at 6pm.

FINE VOICES: Pupils from St Anne's Primary School, in Bishop Auckland, will sing at Sainsbury's, in St Helen Auckland, on Friday, January 31, for around an hour from 1.15pm. They will collect donations in aid of Unicef's Sing for Syria campaign, which raises money for the millions of children affected by the crisis in Syria.

COMMUNITY MEETING: Chilton West Residents Association will meet at Henderson Community House, Coleridge Road, Chilton, on Tuesday, January 28, at 7pm. 

COUNCIL DATE: Spennymoor Town Council will meet at Spennymoor Town Hall on Tuesday, January 28, at 6.45pm. Items on the agenda include the precept for 2014-15. 

ROAD SAFETY: Motorists caught driving too fast in Ferryhill will get warning letters after police and volunteers ran a community speed watch operation on Wood Lane, on Wednesday. Of 113 vehicles that passed the speed monitor, 17 were breaking the speed limit. Residents had raised concerns about speeding at PACT (police and communities together) meetings.
