SCHOOLCHILDREN across Darlington showed their support for the town’s football club by raising money for its funds.

Darlington Football Club invited all schools in the borough to take part in a dress down fundraising day to support the club’s own fundraising initiative, launched just before Christmas.

Corporation Road Primary School was among those taking part and children were invited to wear a football shirt of their choice to school while making a 50p donation to Darlington FC.

Headteacher Peter King said: “Our school enjoys a really good relationship with Darlington FC and we were very keen to participate in the dress down to support them.

“It's important that children grow up supporting their local team.

“Lots of staff and children wore their football shirts to school as a treat and brought in fifty pence each.

“As a Hartlepool United fan it was especially nice, and quite weird, to be able to wear my Pools top to work too!"

Hurworth Primary School also got involved and raised £165 for the club.

Hurworth teacher Noel Hollis said: “They (the children) just hope that the town's football club can get back to where it belongs.

“We wish the club good luck and our school is committed to helping and supporting the club moving forward.”

Darlington FC thanked all the schools that took part in the initiative.
