DURHAM Flower Club’s annual general meeting will be held in the community hall, Sherburn Village, on Thursday, February 6, at 2pm. VOLUNTEERS WANTED: More volunteers are being sought to help run a community gym at Jubilee Hall, West Rainton, near Durham. First aid and safeguarding training is provided. Meanwhile, a Valentine’s Day event will be held in Jubilee Hall on Friday, February 14, featuring an Elvis tribute act and pie and pea supper. The evening starts at 7pm. Tickets are £4. SHOPPERS’ SERVICE: St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Coxhoe, near Durham, will hold its next shoppers’ service on Saturday (February 1) from 10am to 10.30am. The speaker will be John Kidd, of Peterlee.
COFFEE MORNING: St Mary’s Church, West Rainton, will hold a coffee morning in the church building on Saturday, February 8, from 10am to noon. There will be refreshments and various stalls. The church is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
NEW VICAR: The Reverend Elaine Jones, previously vicar of Binley, Coventry, will become vicar of Peterlee from Sunday, February 2. Meanwhile, Rev David Cleugh, previously priest in charge at Leadgate, will also take on responsibility for Ebchester and Medomsley.
