Villagers in Heighington asked to lend a hand as Darlington Borough Council cuts threaten picturesque surroundings

The Advertiser Series: Volunteers needed in Heighington Volunteers needed in Heighington

VILLAGERS are being asked to lend a hand as council cuts threaten their picturesque surroundings.

As part of local authority budget cuts, council gardeners will no longer maintain flowerbeds and tubs around Heighington and Redworth.

Parish councillors – who have been working in the area in an attempt to plug the gap left by the council –have now appealed for volunteers to help them keep their villages beautiful by assisting with planting, weeding and watering.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact Brian Anderson on 01325 311057 for more details.

A clear sign of troubled times for money is when all that Heighington is concerned about is about a few flowers and plants. Obviously this village is getting far too much money, when the rest of us are wondering where our council's next penny might spring from.

I say increase the council tax of all Heighington's bands in order to pay for their precious flowers.
