NO OBJECTIONS: Plans to build a new sixth-form block at Barnard Castle School have been backed by town councillors. The proposals include a new single-storey building with mezzanine situated in a courtyard between the existing dining hall and swimming pool.

WORLD OF BRASS: Multi-instrumentalist James Stretton will bring Orichalcum – World of Brass: The Good, The Bad and the Brassy to Boldron Village Hall, Boldron, near Barnard castle, on Thursday (February 13). The show features 17 brass instruments and is part of the Highlights Rural Tourisn Scheme. The show starts at 8pm. For details call 01833-638210.

REPAIRS PLANNED: The North Star Housing group is to repair doors and windows at its complex at The Meeting House, Queen Street, Barnard Castle. However, as the property, which comprises five flats, is in the town's conservation zone, the company is seeking listed building consent to carry out the work. Town councillors raised no objections.
