Shildon residents set to face council tax bill increase
RESIDENTS in Shildon face a rise in council tax after town councillors agreed to a two per cent increase in its precept.
Shildon Town Council members voted to increase its precept from Durham County Council to £485,410 for 2014-15.
The move means B and A property owners will pay an extra £3.21 a year and Band D residents will pay £4.81 a year more.
An annual Band D council tax bill will rise from £240.47 to £245.28.
Mick Waterson, clerk to the council, said: “We have raised the amount as little as possible while at the same time ensuring that we keep essential services.
“We would rather have a gradual increase in the council tax rather than a spike at some point.”
