A MOTHER caught drink-driving with her nine-year-old daughter in the car has received a 12-month ban.

Victoria Redfern, of Tunstall Cottages, Wolsingham, was pulled over by police carrying out speed checks on Greenfields Road in Tindale Crescent on Sunday, February 2.

The 41-year-old, who was accompanied by her nine-year-old daughter, was driving her Audi A6 at 42mph in a 30mph zone.

Blair Martin, prosecuting at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, February 19), said officers immediately noticed she smelt strongly of alcohol.

A breath test revealed 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

The court heard how Redfern, who pleaded guilty to speeding and drink-driving, had been drinking the night before and was going through a difficult time following the breakdown of her marriage.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month driving ban and fined Redfern a total of £307 for the offences.

She was also ordered to pay a £23 victim surcharge.
