Newton Aycliffe contractor offers its services for free to worthwhile causes
CHARITIES and voluntary groups across the North-East are being encouraged to enter a competition that could see them win a DIY SOS-style makeover for a much-loved community facility.
JDP Contracting Services, a construction contractor based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, is offering community groups in the region the chance to win its services for a day, with all building materials also thrown in for free.
Whether it is a Scout hut in need of a spruce-up or a community centre with a kitchen that has seen better days – the 25-strong team have the tools and knowledge needed for the job.
The winning group can expect a response similar to that of the BBC One series DIY SOS, which sees presenter Nick Knowles and a team of tradesmen and volunteers descend on a family home that is crying out for a makeover.
JDP managing director Chris Hyde said: “It’s all about putting something back into the community. We source the materials and put our skills to work, but we want members of the public to get involved.
“If you know a worthy cause that could use a helping hand in repairing buildings, creating a new space or just sprucing up a tired and rundown room then we want to hear from you.”
The JDP Community Challenge is open to groups and individuals across the region but entries must be of benefit to the wider community and fulfil some or all of the following criteria: support disadvantaged areas; help increase employment prospects; promote equality; and encourage healthy living and positive lifestyles.
Based in Newton Aycliffe Business Park, JDP Contracting Services is involved with affordable housing, education and other public and private sector construction projects.
Its areas of expertise include roof works, joinery, cladding, porch and canopy creation and installation, external wall insulations, refurbishment work and maintenance.
The deadline for entries is the end of March and work is expected to be carried out during the summer.
