PROPOSALS to move a Post Office to create a modern facility with longer opening hours in Ferryhill are open to public consultation.

The Post Office wants to move its Ferryhill branch from Eldon Terrace to nearby Mainsforth News, on Dennision Terrace.

If the scheme is agreed it will form part of a national Post Office modernisation programme.

The Ferryhill branch’s opening hours would change to 5am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 5am to noon on Sunday.

Suzanne Richardson, Post Office regional network manager for Scotland and North England, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Ferryhill.

“We are confident that this new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and will secure services for the future.”

A six week public consultation into the plan is being held and comments can be submitted until Tuesday, April 8.

Comments can be submitted via the customer helpline on 08457-223344 or textphone on 08457-223355 or by email to comments@postoffice.co.uk
