POLICE issued a cannabis warning to a man caught smoking the drug in his car. PCSOSs followed up a message from a resident that there were men in two cars behind the post office in Great Lumley last night Tuesday (March 5) and smelled cannabis in one of the vehicles. He admitted having the drug and officers searched his car and visited his house. Police are warning they will take action against anyone caught using drugs in a public place.

Chairs stolen: Two metal chairs were stolen from back yard of an address at Weardale Terrace, Chester-le-Street, between 9pm on Friday February 28 and 12.30pm on Sunday March 2. Police are urging anyone with information to call them on 101, citing crime reference number WG1400391.

Extension plan: Durham County Council is being asked to grant planning permission for single storey extensions to be built at the front and back of a house in Maplewood, Chester-le-Street. The plan includes a bay window at the front.
