DRIVERS are being warned of possible disruption on a busy commuter route while gas main repair work takes place.

Essential repairs to the gas main on Nevilles Cross Bank, leading into Durham City, will start on Friday (March 7) evening.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks estimate the work could take up to seven days to complete.

In order to carry out the work safely, one lane will be closed westbound towards Meadowfield and one lane will be closed eastbound heading up Nevilles Cross Bank.

Diversions will be clearly marked, taking motorists along Newcastle Road.

John Richardson, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: "We have planned this essential work closely with Durham County Council to minimise disruption to motorists.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reassure members of the public that we will do all we can to complete the work as quickly as possible."
