POLICE are stepping up patrols in The Avenues area of Chester-le-Street following complaints that youngsters are throwing stones at windows.

The incidents happen during the journey to and from school and although no windows have yet been broken, police say householders are suffering unnecessary stress and anguish.

Site raid: Police in Chester-le-Street are investigating a theft from a building site in Northlands on Wednesday, March 5. A man was caught by CCTV cameras at 9.05pm and appeared to have moved copper wire and lead. Anyone with information should call 101.

Tai Chi: A weekly class in Tai Chi aimed at beginners will be held on Tuesday morning from 9.50am to 10.50am in the Chester-le-Street Community Centre, Newcastle Bank. The cost is £2.

History group: A history group meets at the Brockwell Centre, Pelton Fell, near Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday afternoons between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. For further details about the group call the centre on 0191-3893399.

Bowls club: An indoor carpet bowls clubs meets on Tuesdays at the Chester-le-Street Community Centre, Newcastle Bank, between 1.30pm and 4pm. Beginners are welcome. Call 0191-388 4752 for details.
