POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the windows of a pensioner’s car were smashed.

The silver Suzuki Swift was parked in Railway Street, in Annfield Plain, near Stanley when it was vandalised.

The windscreen and passenger window were broken during the incident, which happened just before 7pm on Sunday (March 9) and the owner was left shaken when she later discovered the incident.

Police say they would like to speak to two people who were seen in the area at the time.

Acting Inspector Michael McGowan, from Stanley Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "I would like to appeal for anyone in the area at the time of this incident to please get in touch.

"The victim, a 76-year-old woman, had been left shaken by this incident.

"Not being in the best of health, she relies on her car to get to her medical appointments and feels as if her independence has been taken away."

Anyone who saw anything suspicious should call Durham Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
