A TEENAGER who suffers from a serious spinal condition will enjoy a holiday thanks to fundraisers who took part in a charity Zumbathon.

Charlie Sampson, 13, of St Helen Auckland, near Bishop Auckland, suffers from scoliosis or a curved spine.

Her spine began to curve when she was 12-years-old until at its worse point it was bent more than 100 degrees.

She spent several months in at Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, while titanium rods were inserted into her spine to help reduce the curvature.

Family friend, Joanne Rennie, of Durham, whose eight-year-old daughter Lauren Rennie has scoliosis too, arranged a Zumbathon to raise money to send Charlie and her family on holiday.

Charlie's mother Cheryl Sampson said: “We’re waiting for all of the sponsorship to come in but I know that we have raised at least £400.

“It’s been amazing and it’s lovely to know that there are so many people who are willing to help out.

“Only seven people took part in the two hour Zumbathon on Saturday (March 8) but a lot of people who didn’t take part collected sponsorship.”

The family has not yet decided where they are to go on holiday later this year.
