Baby cafe opens at Freeman's Quay leisure centre in Durham
Updated 5:30pm Tuesday 11th March 2014 in News
A BREASTFEEDING support scheme is celebrating the opening of a new baby cafe.
The facility was officially opened by Durham mayor Councillor Pauline Charlton at the city’s Freeman's Quay leisure centre today (Tuesday, March 11). The cafe – the 17th to open in County Durham - will run from 1pm to 2.30pm on Tuesdays.
The cafes are part of a network of breastfeeding drop-ins which combine breastfeeding information with a relaxed environment where mothers can chat and learn from skilled practitioners and each other.
The project was commissioned by Durham County Council and run by the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
More than 100 women from the region completed NCT-accredited training to become a peer supporter, enabling them to offer others their breastfeeding experience.
