A GROUP that supports older people in Darlington will celebrate its 12th anniversary with an afternoon of entertainment.

Members of Growing Older Living in Darlington (Gold) which is open to people aged 50 and over will gather at Central Hall, in the Dolphin Centre, on Monday, March 24, at 2pm.

Friends, relatives and potential new members of the group are all invited to attend.

The event will give older people the opportunity to have their say about life in Darlington, and to discuss how Gold will be funded in the future.

There will also be information and advice available from local police officers, as well as other organisations.

Jeanette Freeman, who has been a member of GOLD since 2002, said: “Gold has given me the opportunity to have my say on issues that are important to me, get involved in great events like the Darlington Carnival and meet new people.

“It’s a diverse organisation and it would be wonderful to see lots of new faces at our celebration event.”

Veronica Copeland, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Gold has been a voice for older people in Darlington since 2002, ensuring that they are seen as useful and respected citizens.

“This event will be a great introduction to what the group has achieved, as well as their plans for the future.”

To attend, contact Gold on 01325-388845 or email gold@darlington.gov.uk to book a place.
