HUNDREDS of people have signed up for the Darlington Sport Relief runs taking place around South Park next week – and there is still time to get involved.

The event, called the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, will see hundreds of entrants tackle one, three, or six mile routes around South Park in aid of the charity on Sunday, March 23.

Coun Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure, praised the enthusiasm shown by Darlington residents and said: “Let’s show the rest of the country what we can do and raise as much money as we possibly can for this incredible cause.”

He added: “There will be plenty of activities for the family on the day so don’t forget to rope in your friends, family and colleagues too.”

Coun Andy Scott, cabinet member for health, added: “Sport Relief is a great opportunity to get involved, have some fun, try and raise some money to help people less fortunate than ourselves and do ourselves some good at the same time.

“No matter how far or fast you can run or walk, there’s a distance for everybody.

“Come along and join in the fun!”

The first run will start from the Clock Tower in South Park at 10.30am.
