A FORMER boxing champion has visited a Durham school to encourage children to take up sport.
Hartlepool-born Amanda Coulson, a former British title holder, dropped in at Belmont Community School, Belmont, Durham, on Monday (March 10) to see for herself the Sportivate boxing project.
The 2012 Olympics legacy initiative offers non-sporty 11 to 25-year-olds six to eight weeks’ free coaching in a new sport.
Ms Coulson said: “The opportunity to support such community sports programmes is a real privilege for me.
“I’m hopeful that by using the Olympic and Paralympic legacy from London 2012 and through my experiences in competing at elite level, I can inspire all the young people in attendance to sustain their sports participation.”
Ms Coulson will return to Belmont on Monday, March 24.
