ARTISTS are being sought for a special market this Easter.

More than 20 artisans have already signed up for a Designer Makers Market at The Witham, Barnard Castle, but more are needed.

Organiser Kathryn Guy said there will be stalls selling handcrafted goods, demonstrations and opportunities for the public to have a go.

She said artists from Teesdale wishing to take part in the event, on Good Friday, April 18, and Easter Saturday, must design and make all their own work.

Mrs Guy is also looking for local sculpture artists to demonstrate and display their work outside in The Witham's garden area.

“I have a strict criteria to meet, but would very much like to hear from any local artist who thinks that their work may fit into the overall theme,” she said.

Among those already lined up are Marmalade Rose, a textile artist who creates felt pictures using wool fibres, and Phil Ogden, a botanical artist who creates distinctive home wares.

Glass engraver Lawrence Staley will be amongst those giving demonstrations and showing their work.
