TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving council executive, who is leaving his post next month after 14 years with the authority.

Richard Alty, director of place for Darlington Borough Council, will leave his £90,000-a-year role on April 22.

Mr Alty attended his last meeting of the full council on Thursday (March 20) evening.

He was thanked for his service by Darlington mayor Charles Johnson, as well as councillors from all three political parties.

Coun Johnson placed on record the council’s thanks to Mr Alty for his work over the past 14 years, and wished him well for the future.

Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, who has worked closely with Mr Alty, described him as a "man of integrity and commitment".
