USING social media across the generations was the theme of a seminar at Darlington College.

Business Studies students teamed up with members of the National Council of Women (NCW) to discuss the growing momentum of social media, and how you are never too old to start tweeting.

Anthony Williams, an e-learning co-ordinator at the college who spoke at the session, said for all generations, technology is expanding and is integral to learning and communicating.

The groups also discussed the need for awareness when it comes to the dangers of accessing media.

Mr Williams added: “People are being hurt because they are not being educated enough about the dangers of social media, when in fact social media and education should go hand in hand.”

But despite the dangers, interacting with the students has encouraged members of the National Council of Women to give the world of technology a try.

Mary Grimes of the NCW said: ‘‘Members were very impressed by the quality of the contributions made by the students, and we definitely want to give new forms of technology a try.
