ENTRIES are being sought for a decorated Easter egg competition which will be judged by a writer with The Northern Echo.

The Co-operative Funneralcare, in Shildon, is hosting a free competition for the best dyed, painted or decorated Easter egg.

There are prizes for children aged five to seven-years, seven to 11-years, 11 to 16-years, adults and families.

Entries can be left at the Co-operative funeral home, on Church Street, in Shildon, between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday up to Thursday, April 17.

The winners will be picked by The Northern Echo features writer Sharon Griffiths on April 17, at noon.

A coffee morning is being held the same day from 10am. There will be a raffle, tombola and refreshments.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Ark on the Edge, at Woodlands, Kays Hill Animal Sanctuary, near to Bishop Auckland, and Stray Aid, at Coxhoe.

Chris Percival, a volunteer at Ark on the Edge, is to visit the coffee morning with her rescue cat Dylan.
