A WOMAN with a history of alcohol and mental health issues admitted stealing wine and food from Morrisons shortly after being released from prison.

Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard today (Tuesday, March 25) that Amy Kelly, 24, of Cumberland Street, Darlington, stole wine and hot food worth £17.22 from the supermarket on March 13.

Mitigating, Darren Brown said she had only been released from prison days earlier so had not been able to organise her benefits or the medication she needed.

She also drank heavily before committing the thefts but Mr Brown said she was now taking steps to address her issues.

Magistrate Jill Richardson said that because Kelly was on licence from prison, she was giving her one last chance to retain her freedom.

She imposed a six-month supervision order and told her to pay £5.24 compensation to Morrisons and £45 in court costs.
