FIRE crews were called to a fire at Helperby Village Hall at about 8am on Saturday, March 29. Fire crews from Boroughbridge and Easingwold were dispatched to the community centre following reports of smoke. They discovered a fire in the bar area and two more fire service vehicles were called from Ripon and Thirsk to help deal with the blaze. The fire was extinguished just after 9am. Two chairs were destroyed and the bar and entrance area were smoke damaged. It is believed to have been caused by heat radiating from an electric heater on to a chair.
