CHESTER-le-Street Rotary Club has recognised the youngster who has achieved the best academic performance in the area.

Each year the club presents Rose Trophy to the pupil at a Chester-le-Street school who scores the best marks in their A Levels.

This year’s recipient is Joshua Dismore, formerly of Park View School, Chester-le-Street, who is now studying engineering at Cambridge University.

In his A-Levels he scored A stars in history, maths, physics and an extended project. He also achieved A grades in further maths.

Rotary Club spokesman John Stewart said: “We look to encourage the area’s youngsters.

“This award has been running since the 1950s and we have had winners who have gone on to be a professor at Miami University and one who works at Harwell, the atomic research facility.”
