A FUNDRAISING group collected more than £500 for cancer charity Marie Curie in one lunchtime initiative.

Darlington Lions Club fund raising chairman Pat De Martino organised the collection in Darlington town centre in support of the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal.

A number of Darlington Lions members £480 in just over two hours, thanks to the generosity of Saturday shoppers.

The Lions rounded up the final amount to £500 and presented a cheque to the Darlington branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care at its meeting at Mayflower Court last week.

Robert Hillary, president of Darlington Lions Club, said: “A massive thank you must go to the shoppers in Darlington town centre for their extreme generosity in raising so much money in just over the two hours for this most important and worthwhile appeal.”
