CHESTER-le-Street will mark Easter with its traditional procession through the town centre.

The march of witness, organised by the town’s Churches Together group, will be held on Good Friday (April 18).

Starting at 11am at St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Church in Ropery Lane, processioners will walk through the town centre carrying a cross.

An outdoor service will be held in the Market Place at 11.30am.

A Holy Week prayer room-with interactive prayer stations will be open at Chester-le-Street Salvation Army, Low Chare, from Monday, April 14, to Thursday April 17 between 10am and noon. Everyone is welcome.

The Salvation Army will also hold a free holiday club for children aged five to 12 from Monday (April 7) to Friday, April 11 between 10am and noon. The club is based on the ITV series @The Story Keepers. For information and booking call 0191-388 2268.

On Maundy Thursday, April 17, the ministers of Churches Together will shine shoes for the general public in Chester-le-Street’s Front Street. The shoe- shining is the present day equivalent to Jesus washing his disciples’ feet before the Last Supper.
