A LESSON in crime-fighting was on the timetable for youngsters at a Darlington school.

Officers from Darlington police were on hand to offer crime prevention advice and free bike security marking to pupils at Corporation Road Primary School.

The event was held as part of Operation Spoke, which aims to tackle the theft of bikes in the region by helping people to security mark them and register them online.

It also coincided with the launch of the force’s annual Summer Nights campaign, which will run throughout the summer months until October.

The campaign aims to crack-down on seasonal crime that is more likely to happen during the lighter evenings, such as opportunistic burglaries.

Officers are reminding people to avoid leaving doors and windows open and unattended on warm days, as well as locking garden tools and toys away securely in sheds and garages.

People are also being encouraged to register their belongings online at immobilise.com

A number of Summer Nights roadshows will be held in Darlington over the next few months.
